Sculpture: These sculptures in ductile iron were made within a 2 month residency at the Kohler iron foundry in Wisconsiny between October and December 2008. I made began with 5 figures, later expanded to 6. All of them can be adjusted in various ways with moveable limbs and additional elements such as the brass cape on one of them. In this form they appeared to acquire strong and expressive personalities for me. Later I was also able to cast these figures into bronze when working with friends Julia and Shane who have a foundry in Philadelphia.
I have little opportunity at present to continue with sculpture because of other work, but it remains an ambition and one that I continue with in between times. The many different disciplines within the Arts and are like countries and whole continents of a world that I am crossing on foot, so that I will never see more than the smallest portion of it.
Visiting a friends workshop I was marvelling at some chased silver from Kashmir and thinking that it would take a lifetime to master this one skill in thgis onme design.
